The Patient Innovation System
The purpose of this project is to enable patients to become active subjects in the production and innovation of care services, as opposed to being passive ‘objects’ to whom care is delivered. We create internetservices that allow patients to try various ways of influencing their own health in daily life, and evaluate the results of these “self care interventions” statistically. Thus, patients learn to what degree certain behaviors and activities yield the outcomes they desire.
One of the subprojects in the Patient Innovation System is the Patient Self-Entry Service. This service enables patients to enter data about their disease status and symptoms via Internet. The patient thus creates a status-overview that can servce as a basis for decisions made at the subsequent encounter with the physician. Thanks to the Patient Self-Entry Service, patients become co-producers in the care process and gain an improved knowledge and control of their disease. Further, the physician is provided with an enhanced basis for making decisions about future therapy, and more time to discuss non-routine issues with patient.
